There is a formula used by smart people for setting out their aims that can help anyone to be more effective in achieving success.

When defining your own goals, make sure they are SMART as exemplified below:

* Specific: I shall go to the gym for an hour at 4 PM. (Not: I am planning to get more exercise)

* Measurable: I shall substitute one portion of fruit for a chocolate bar everyday this week. (not: I shall eat more fruit from now on)

* Achievable: I have decided to cut out fatty meats, burgers, fried foods and takeaways. (not: I am going to avoid all saturated fat.)

* Realistic: I shall take a deep breath whenever my partner irritates me. (not: I am never going to argue again.)

* Timely: I am starting a diet on Monday and aiming to lose a few centimeters from my waste by April 7. (not: I want a 66 CM waist)
